Guardamar del Segura is a busy seaside town popular with both the Spanish and North European tourist. The town has superb, wide, blue flag beaches which extend from the mouth of the Segura river to La Mata; a distance of approximately 6 miles. The beaches are well maintained. They are never crowded and they are patrolled by life-guards in the summer. The town has many restuarants, cafes, bars and shops. It also has a sports complex close to the beach with open and indoor swimming pools and tennis courts. The town has two parks; a larger 'wild' park for jogging and cycling and a smaller one which hosts open air concerts in the summer. The remains of the old walled town sit on a hill above the modern town. A pre-phonecian bust similar to the Dama d'Elx has been found in excavations in the town. |
